Kent Farm of the Year

Bore Place organic farm is managed proactively for food, nature and people. It is an organic dairy farm with a herd of 250 cows and an organic market garden situated in west Kent on the Bore Place estate. Our estate encompasses 500 acres predominantly made of grassland but interspersed with 60 acres of ancient woodland and hedgerows managed proactively for food and nature.

A key development for us over the past few years has been to further our regenerative practice by proactively managing our soil health and monitoring species and habitats on-site to ensure that we are enhancing the biodiversity of the estate.

Alongside this, we have undertaken £750k of infrastructure improvements with a new milking parlour and investments in our management of slurry, dirty water and silage to reduce pollution and improve animal and staff welfare.

Our approach has been to farm and work collaboratively with business partners who specialise in each of the different elements of how we farm and manage the land. This improves the productivity of how we farm and has increased the number of jobs on-site. Collectively we have a 10-year management plan that provides focus on how we farm regeneratively and ensure the maximum environmental outcomes.

We work in partnership with the Commonwork Trust which runs all our community, schools, young people and volunteering programmes. We are now offering accredited learning programmes to all our pupils who attend school at Bore Place 1 day a week and are developing plans to expand further.
