Based in the heart of Kent, The Bakehouse at 124 is an independent artisan bakery where everything is made from scratch using the finest natural ingredients sourced locally where possible.

Set up in 2015 by owner and head baker Clare Barton, the Bakehouse uses traditional methods and techniques to specialise in producing a range of sourdough breads, pastries and cakes that are all made to a very high standard - demonstrated by an impressive award tally.

In the last two years the business has both grown and diversified to increase its customer product range with fantastic accompaniments to the baked goods. Jams, preserves and chutneys are now a much-loved addition to our shop.

Greengage and Almond Jam

“Rich, fruity and with a nutty crunch” - introducing the Bakehouse Greengage and Almond Jam.

Known for our high-end baked goods, we significantly increased our range of jams and preserves in the last two years. And what better way to showcase our sourdough breads than pairing it with homemade jam!

Based in the very heart of Kent, we are very fortunate to have some fantastic farms all over the county. The greengages used in this jam are made using fruit grown just a few miles away from us at Roughway Farm in Plaxtol – so it truly is a very local product!

By their nature, greengages are sweet and succulent but with a short season, we wanted to create a product that lasted longer and that could be eaten and enjoyed at Christmas by our customers. But also we wanted to add our very own twist….

At the Bakehouse we think very carefully about flavours and pairings so chose to add extra flavour to this jam by using almonds. Not only do the almonds add texture to the jam but they create a depth of flavour to the fruit and a sense of luxury.

To make the jam we used the whole fruit, discarding the stones later to ensure every last bit of flavour was utilised with zero waste – something we take very seriously in a bid to be as sustainable as possible.

With so much thought put into each jar, we hope to bring a mouthful of joy to all our customers.
